Japan 2016: Kanazawa

July 01, 2017

They say Kanazawa is a great place to experience the beauty of autumn in Japan. Although we were a bit early for autumn foliage—we arrived in early November, while the peak of autumn color usually comes in mid-November and lasts till mid-December—Kanazawa did not disappoint. Just look at the row of maple trees and the colors of the leaves beneath my feet. Autumn is truly the most beautiful season.

For our 1-day trip, we went to the Kanazawa Castle and to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art.

But first, food—

My favorite—sashimi!

Kanazawa Castle

The Kanazawa Castle burnt down several times over the centuries, but has been well restored to preserve the history and culture of Japan. Join the guided tours to learn more about Japan's history; we enjoyed it very much. The castle is located adjacent to the Kenrokuen Garden, which is another famous landmark. However, due to the rain, we were not able to visit.

21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art

From something old, to something new. Modern art is interesting. It's not something I understand all the time, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate it. One of the famous installations in the museum is Leandro Erlich's Swimming Pool, where people appear to be underwater.
